I have read about Ukash as a secure method for making purchases online. Before using Ukash I would like to know if it is regulated in any way, and if so, how?

With all of the internet scams today, you should check before using Ukash. Be reassured that you can use Ukash safely and securely, although you should always be on alert for possible scams. Just check the Ukash website for updates. Ukash is a trading name for SmartVoucher Ltd., and SmartVoucher operates under the authorization and regulation of the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA), which regulates the financial services industry in the UK. Ukash FSA authorization has been exported to the European countries in which Ukash can be used.

Will I be asked for any additional personal information when I use Ukash on the internet?

You are not required to give any personal details to Ukash when you pay for your vouchers with cash, and then use them to pay online. Some of the advanced Ukash tools and benefits of Ukash require registration, but these are optional.

How do I report a fraud?

Unfortunately with the ever-increasing use of the Internet for trade, even the most secure options are sometimes susceptible to scams and fraud. Scams and fraud should always be reported. If you are the victim of a fraud or scam in the UK, this should be reported to Action Fraud, which has a hotline on 0300 123 2040. In addition, you can report the fraud or scam online. Anywhere other than the UK, report the fraud or scam to the local police. Suspected fraudulent sites should be reported to Customer Services at Ukash for investigation.

How can I protect my Ukash?

Treat your Ukash voucher details as you would cash, and never give out your Ukash details over the phone, by mail or by email.

Checking your Ukash

Scams are best avoided by prevention - be sure to check your Ukash voucher prior to leaving the shop where you purchased it. Particularly check the PIN, currency and value - as these can only be corrected before you leave the shop. If you plan to make purchases on an over-18 website, make sure that you have not received age restricted vouchers. These can be recognized by their PINs, and start with 633718401 or 633718427.

Can I be sure it’s a genuine website?
